Is Agriculture Education Important Today?

Agricultural education is the teaching of agriculture, natural resources, and land management.

Agricultural education instruction is delivered through three major components:

  1. contextual learning

  2. agricultural experience programs (work-based programs)

  3. student leadership organizations (supervised organizations).


Disciplines closely tied to agricultural education include agricultural communications, agricultural leadership, and extension education.

Development led to the use of modern farming methods that required fewer farmworkers, resulting in larger, corporatized farms and ranches. This development increased the need for more agriculture science and education.

ROLE OF AGRICULTURAL INSTITUTES IN EDUCATION: -

  1. To perform an active and constructive role in job creation and food security, delegates reiterated the need for agricultural universities, and other higher learning institutions alike, to adjust their curricular programmers to accommodate new topics, as well as teaching and learning models. They would also need to forge new partnerships.

  2. Technology is actually key to engaging youth more in agriculture. It's true fact that improved technologies keep on the enthusiastic of youth to try and learn new technologies for their career improvement. By laying a strong foundation of upgraded technologies and software to the youth student from teaching of various agricultural institutes like research center, college.etc.

  3. In this context, the relationship between higher education and rural development becomes an important policy concern, particularly in countries where the revitalization of rural areas represents a critical challenge. Taking this into consideration application of both rural development programs in agricultural education as a part of curriculum in their degrees.

  4. There needs to be a greater level of investment, in terms of both technical and scientific training, as well as practical applied experiences for young people so that what they are learning can be put into a workplace environment. Experiences in field work which keep a strong perception to every individual to change their way of thinking and to accept how the rural development works.

  5. Universities need to become even more productive in terms of generating research – around seed technologies, better planting methods, ways of analyzing soil, and understanding and mitigating the impacts of climate change. However, because of that improvement of global economy in agricultural sector by lending their knowledges and skills, technologies in various channels to reach their targeted farmers.

  6. The future of the agricultural sector is all about science, technology and education and there’s no better place to propel that type of growth than through knowledge, which is created at the higher education institutions.

  7. Source of Industrial Development-Agriculture makes important contribution in industrial development because it supplies industrial raw material like cotton for the textile industry, seeds for the oil industry, and sugarcane for the sugar mills. Applying of knowledge, technologies to improve the advanced stages of agricultural inputs and to its allied sectors.

  8. Agriculture plays an important role in the international trade -Trading at profitable account and to benefit for both the seller and buyers this type of trading can done by a trading master who knows the agricultural product and their life span.

  9. A significant component of the country’s wealth belongs to agricultural sector. In terms of fixed assets, land occupies the highest rank in India. Besides, capital worth crores of rupees stay invested in major and minor irrigation projects.
